A counter relay counts control pulses, for example packages passing a photoelectric sensor. When the set number of pulses has been counted, the output contact changes state and stays there until the counter is reset.
Connections
- Supply. The counter needs an operating voltage.
- Count input. Each pulse increases the count by one.
- Reset input. Resets the counter, and the output returns to rest. The counter does not count while it is being reset.
- Output contact. Changes state when the preset is reached.
In Johdota
The counter relay in the game is simplified: the pulses go to the coil A1–A2 and the reset to input R. In real counters, the supply and the count input are separate terminals, and the terminal markings vary between manufacturers. On many counters you can also choose whether to count up or down and whether the output resets by itself.
